Engineering Integrity into Journalism:

This Is Our Mission

Journalism is at a crossroads. Public trust in media has diminished, local newspapers are disappearing, and misinformation is running rampant. At EmpowerLocal and Source Local Media, we believe the way forward isn’t just about reporting the news—it’s about engineering integrity back into journalism itself. Our approach isn’t just editorial; it’s structural. We are designing a system that rewards accuracy, transparency, and trustworthiness, ensuring that local voices are empowered and communities are informed. All the while the way its funded is equally better value for the brands and advertising budgets that fund it. The whole system has one driving-purpose - to create trust and authentic connections using engineered integrity throughout.

The Foundation: Verifying Sources & Providing Alternatives

The cornerstone of our approach is rigorous source verification using our unique approach. Every article, every report, and every piece of content we publish must come from sources that are not only credible but also independently verifiable using our technology and scoring. In addition to confirming facts, we will always provide alternative sources, allowing our audience to compare perspectives and build their own informed opinions, plus see the credibility of the sources the entire time.

Our commitment to transparency and metrics while you read sets Source Local Media apart from traditional news organizations that often operate with intentionally hidden agendas. We will make it clear where information comes from, who is behind it, and how it was verified – combined with proper counter points.  We source every detail—verifiably within the article—and our technology continuously elevates the most accurate, real-time, high-quality sources to the forefront for even greater accuracy.

Empowering Hyperlocal Journalists – The Last Guardians of Truth

Mainstream media has lost touch with local communities. At a time when many local news outlets are struggling and Americans’ trust in the news media has waned, the vast majority of U.S. adults (85%) say local news outlets are at least somewhat important to the well-being of their local community (sourced here).  Legacy Media cannot capture the nuances, needs, and stories that truly matter to people on the ground because they are not as hyper-local compared to what EmpowerLocal has in place. That’s why our model is built around hyperlocal journalism.  It outperforms in a more sustainable way —recruiting and nurturing independent voices within communities who are dedicated to covering their own towns, neighborhoods, and regions in a way Mainstream just can not do.  This is who readers trust the most and always will.

Rather than amplifying corporate-driven narratives, we will champion individuals—not organizations—who are deeply committed to truthful and responsible journalism. We will seek out people who want to be the voice of their community, not just another mouthpiece for large media conglomerates.   Note: that’s what we have already started enrolling over 1000 publishers and growing.  Our goal is an empowered hyper-local voice in every county in the USA by end of 2026.

Building a Network of Verified Journalists

In time, we will create a system for recruiting, vetting, and scoring journalists based on their integrity, accuracy, and impact.

Our verification system will be community-driven, with local audiences helping to identify and vouch for reliable sources. Those who consistently produce high-quality, well-sourced content will receive higher ratings, increased visibility, and greater financial rewards.

Examples of this approach already exist. Writers like Donna Vissman of WilliamsonSource.com, Austin Stanley and Zach Bingham of AtoZ Sports and  Deb Fowler, a nonfiction journalist known for thorough and factual reporting, are the types of contributors we want to elevate – using our EmpowerLocal and SourceLocalMedia approach. By combining traditional journalistic principles with our innovative audience feedback loops, and the way we pay performing journalists, we will build a marketplace for journalism where credibility is valued above clicks and compensation only transfers from advertisers when the audience is confirmed to be authentic and trustworthy.

Measuring Success: Engagement Based on Merit

Integrity alone isn’t enough—we also need to ensure that our contributors are reaching and engaging their communities. That’s why we will pay journalists based on the merit of their content—not through arbitrary salaries but through real-world impact SourceScore metrics and a structured pay-for-performance model, watching:

  • Page views
  • Shares
  • Comments
  • Audience engagement
  • How they score against our integrity model, which we call the SourceScore—a unique system that empowers readers by rating the trustworthiness of both the journalist and the source itself. Much like a star rating for a business, the SourceScore operates on a scale from 1 to 5, allowing audiences to quickly gauge the credibility of the information they consume.

These signals indicate that content is resonating with people, and rather than chasing sensationalism, we will ensure that high engagement comes from credible, verified and well-researched journalism.

Funding the Future of Local Journalism  – give Advertisers purpose behind their budgets.

One of the reasons media has decline is based on the lack of a sustainable funding between the advertisers and the content writers.  There in lies the bridge that only EmpowerLocal provides to hyper local content journalists.  We launch and  sustain this model because we target big brand and advertising budgets and give them purpose for why to spend it – to engineer integrity back into journalism.  Buyers require this in the place they convey their messaging to their desired audiences.  Combined properly in the EmpowerLocal way – it manufactures the most trusted hyper local journalists, that EmpowerLocal has already established.  And legacy media never will.

Small businesses, community organizations, and local advertisers will also have opportunities to support verified journalists, creating a mutually beneficial ecosystem that strengthens both the news landscape, businesses and the local economy.

Conclusion: A New Era for Journalism

At DodsonMC, EmpowerLocal, and Source Local Media, we are not merely reporting the news—we are engineering a journalism revolution from the ground up – unencumbered by the legacy of problems. By integrating engineering principles into news verification, using the latest tech – empowering the whole network, and measuring success through impact, we will restore integrity to an industry that desperately needs it – as soon as possible.

This is our mission. This is how we bring truth back to journalism. And we invite you to be part of it.
